Simon Le Gouill

Product Designer

Framing a still-fuzzy need and turning it into a feature people actually use, while balancing real-world usage, technical constraints and strategic goals: that's what I bring to a team. I'm looking to join an organisation where I can contribute to building ambitious, innovative digital products. Based in Nantes, France.

Experience

  • Discovery and framing: turning a client need into a product scope, personas, information architecture and user journeys.
  • UX/UI design: designing and improving features for SaaS products, translating user and business needs into intuitive interfaces, producing wireframes, high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes in Figma, designing reusable components, iterating on user feedback.
  • Product ownership: defining and arbitrating features, designing user profiles, roles and permissions, prioritizing with stakeholders and writing product documentation.
  • Product & engineering collaboration: working day to day with a solution architect and two full stack developers, technical feasibility trade-offs, follow-up and acceptance testing of development through to production.
  • Designing under constraints: designing simple, coherent experiences that reconcile user needs, business stakes, institutional requirements, technical and budget constraints and the regulatory framework.
  • Artificial intelligence: using AI to explore several design directions, speed up screen production, prototype features and write product documentation. Using Claude Code to ship feature changes deployed to production.
  • Redesign of the user interface (UI) and simplification of the user experience (UX).
  • User interviews to identify needs and steer product decisions.
  • Contributing to backlog prioritization and feature definition, working directly with the founders.
  • Close collaboration with the developers on implementing and shipping new features.
  • User support and content design for the help center, to make users autonomous and lighten the team's workload.
  • Brief: design the mobile interface for InstantMeal, an iOS app for ordering personalized meals in cubes, dispensed by vending machines around the city.
  • Analysis of the brief, the personas and the usage constraints.
  • User journey design, wireframes, art direction and high-fidelity screen design.
  • Result: selected among the 15 finalists out of more than 70 entrants.
  • UX/UI redesign of a VR science outreach game: field research (shadowing), identifying friction points, prioritizing improvements and steering development with the technical vendor.
  • Service design for the HR department: improving the onboarding journey of new staff, with 8 semi-structured interviews, workshops, a UX audit and a redesign of the materials (FR/EN welcome booklet).
  • Information design within the French State Design System (DSFR): redesign of the internal display screen, briefing sheets for the CEO and simplification of administrative documents.
  • Art direction and rebranding of the InScience science culture festival, overseeing production of the event trailer with an external motion design agency.
  • Design advocacy: introducing design thinking internally to staff, challenging established practices.
  • Framing the request and what was at stake in the subject, to define the editorial angle and the reading experience.
  • Art direction and design of an interactive narrative (scrollytelling) built to carry the subject.
  • High-fidelity desktop and mobile mockups (Figma).
  • Presenting the project and aligning with the newsroom's digital editorial lead.
  • Design & development of the PILOT brand identity on the European market: contributing to the graphic standards and guidelines that keep the brand visually consistent.
  • UX/UI design: partial redesign of the intranet to smooth the sharing of brand assets & source files with the European subsidiaries.
  • Web brand content creation: packshots, lifestyle photography, video tutorials, web banners and e-commerce visuals.
  • Close collaboration with the marketing teams, the printers and the company's various departments, working around the specific constraints of each.
